Editorial Review
Because of its specially designed silicone nipple that mimics the shape of a mother’s breast, this 9-ounce feeding bottle from Avent is the bottle of choice for many nursing mothers who may have to supplement with formula occasionally. This popular bottle has some nice features and some distinct advantages over some of the less expensive bottles. Holding a little more than 9 ounces when it is full, the Avent bottle has an unusually wide mouth and a large nipple–making it easy to fill the bottle with expressed breast milk or formula, and easy to clean both the bottle and the nipple itself. Although the bottle is equipped with an antivacuum skirt valve that is designed to reduce the amount of air your baby swallows while feeding–and thus the amount of gas they experience–the bottle will not completely eliminate this common problem. Made of a durable polycarbonate plastic that is both dishwasher and microwave safe, the bottle can be attached to a manual Avent Isis breast pump to express breast milk directly. The bottle comes with a self-sealing cap to prevent spills. –Chris Burns
From the Manufacturer
Philips Avent 9oz Bottle w/ Slow Flow Nipple. When baby sucks on the nipple, the skirt collapses inward, allowing small amounts of air into the bottle, replacing the milk at a rate the baby controls with its own suckling rhythm. Because this exchange of air into the bottle occurs throughout the feeding session, baby will get a continuous flow of milk.

The last thing a baby needs at feeding time is a bottle that lets air into his stomach. This 4-ounce plastic Avent feeding bottle is designed with a patented antivacuum skirt valve that reduces air swallowing and painful gas. The broad, soft silicone nipple mimics the shape of a woman’s breast, making for a more natural transition when Mom can’t breastfeed anymore. When used with the Avent Breast Pump, the bottle can be filled directly from the pump while the self-sealing cap prevents leaks during storage or while traveling. Ounces are marked on the bottle’s side so you always know how much liquid baby is getting. –Marianne Painter
